    Who can propose/lead a course?

    • Current MIT EECS affiliation with the department is required of all proposers.
    • The course proposer must be the program leader and principal lecturer. Non-MIT course leaders, including alums, cannot be considered.
    • Student-leaders of for-credit courses must have an EECS faculty/lecturer sponsor confirmed at the time of proposal.

What funding is available for IAP courses?

    • Funding from the department is very limited. In your proposal, you may request funding for materials, or (in rare cases) for grad/undergrad student-employees teaching the course..
      • Wages for student-employees teaching are uncommon. Most courses should plan to run with all-volunteer leaders and staff.  An exception is a course that is run by an ASA-recognized student group that does external fundraising to support its course; such a course may pay wages to its teaching staff, but should expect to use external funds to pay those wages (not EECS department funds), and should use the EECS hourly course/lab assistant rate
    • No funding for course operations, A/V, food, swag, etc. is available.
    • Funding is available for for-credit courses only; non-credit activities should not request funding.

When and how do I propose a course?

    • For courses/activities that run each year, a new proposal must be submitted each cycle.
    • Courses may be offered twice under a special subject number (6.Sxxx). Thereafter, to be offered again a permanent subject number must be requested (6.9xxx).
      • EECS instructors/faculty: submit an EECS course proposal form for a permanent subject AND submit the IAP course proposal.
      • MIT students: To be offered more than twice, a course must be run by an ASA-recognized student group, must work with an EECS instructor/faculty member to submit the EECS course proposal form AND must submit an IAP course proposal.
