Members of the MIT engineering faculty receive many awards in recognition of their scholarship, service, and overall excellence. The School of Engineering periodically recognizes their achievements by highlighting the honors, prizes, and medals won by faculty working in our academic departments, labs, and centers.

Regina Barzilay of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences on April 30.
Angela Belcher of the Department of Biological Engineering was elected to the National Academy of Sciences on May 25.
Emery N. Brown of the Institute for Medical Science and Engineering received the Pierre Galletti Award from the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering on March 21 and the 2022 Gruber Neuroscience Prize on May 17.
Fikile Brushett of the Department of Chemical Engineering received the American Institute of Chemical Engineers’ Allan P. Colburn Award for Excellence in Publications by a Young Member of the Institute on June 30.
Matteo Bucci of the Department of Nuclear Science and Engineering received the received the Distinguished Early Career Award from the U.S. Department of Energy on May 30.
Jacopo Buongiorno of the Department of Nuclear Science and Engineering was recognized for outstanding support of American Nuclear Society Crisis Communications on May 30.
Arup Chakraborty of the Department of Chemical Engineering received an honorary doctorate of science from the University of Delaware May 26.
Patrick Doyle of the Department of Chemical Engineering received the Alpha Chi Sigma Award for Chemical Engineering Research from the American Institute of Chemical Engineers on June 30.
Alan J. Grodzinsky of the Department of Biological Engineering received an honorary doctorate from the University of Eastern Finland on June 11.
Yael Kalai of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science was named a 2022 fellow of the International Association for Cryptologic Research on June 27.
Dina Katabi of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences on April 30.
Robert Langer of the Department of Chemical Engineering received a BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Award on June 17.
John Lienhard of the Department of Mechanical Engineering received the Donald Q. Kern Award from the American Institute of Chemical Engineers on May 1.
Mingda Li of the Department of Nuclear Science and Engineering received the PAI Outstanding Faculty Award presented by the student chapter of the American Nuclear Society on May 11.
Nuno Loureiro of the Department of Nuclear Science and Engineering received the Ruth and Joel Spira Award for Excellence in Teaching on May 11.
Benedetto Marelli of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering received the 2022 BioInnovation Institute and Science Prize for Innovation on April 7.
Muriel Médard of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science was named a member of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina on March 1.
Yet Ming-Chiang of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering was named to the Boston Globe’s Tech Power Players 50 on June 1.
Stefanie Mueller of the Department of Mechanical Engineering was named to the MIT Technology Review 35 Innovators Under 35 on June 30.
Farnaz Niroui of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science received a National Science Foundation CAREER Award on Jan. 1.
Carlos Portela of the Department of Mechanical Engineering was named to the MIT Technology Review 35 Innovators Under 35 on June 29.
Manish Raghavan of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science received a 2021 ACM Doctoral Dissertation Award on June 1.
Ronitt Rubinfeld of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science was elected to the National Academy of Sciences on May 3.
Arvind Satyanarayan of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science received Best Paper Honorable Mention from IUI 2022 on May 5, Best Paper Honorable Mention from EUROVIS 2022 on May 25, and Best Paper Honorable Mention from SIGCHI on June 17.
Zachary Smith of the Department of Chemical Engineering received the John G. Kunesh Award from the American Institute of Chemical Engineers on June 14, and an NSF CAREER Award on June 16.
Antonio Torralba of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science received an honorary doctorate from Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya on March 11.
Giovanni Traverso of the Department of Mechanical Engineering named a Controlled Release Society College of Fellows Award Recipient on April 19.
Harry Tuller of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering was named a 2022 Materials Research Society Fellow on April 28.
Vinod Vaikuntanathan of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science received the 2022 Gödel Prize on May 21, and was named a 2022 Blavatnik National Award Finalist on June 1.
Xuanhe Zhao of the Department of Mechanical Engineering received the 2022 Soft Matter Lectureship on May 31.
