Large scale, open generative models and their effect on the generative art world

Tuesday, October 4
1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Location: E15-359

Speaker: Emad Mostaque, co-founder @ Stability.AI (creators of Stable Diffusion). Part of MAS.S66 Computer Visions course.

Synopsis: Stable Diffusion, a generative “text-to-image” model from Stability.AI, is at the spearhead of a revolution of contemporary generative media. The large model rivals those from OpenAI and Google (e.g. DALL-E, Imagen, Parti and others) but it has been released publicly with the goal of spurring research and work in the open source community. Since it’s release Stable Diffusion, within a span of just a few weeks, was mixed and integrated into countless state-of-the-art generative tools to make up beautiful images, perform out- and in-painting, render video, aid in web and graphic design, as well as plug-in to major design tools such as Photoshop and Figma. We are joined by Emad Mostaque, entrepreneur and co-founder of Stability.AI, to share his point of view on this advancing revolution, the people behind it, the funding decisions, its origins and its possible futures.
