Abstract: We develop three distinct implementations of the microwave readout technique for magnetometry
in solid-state spin systems. This readout method was first demonstrated in NV-diamond, but can
be expanded to new materials and pairs well with additional technqiques to enable new capabilities.
First, we demonstrate the technique in ruby to show its applicability to a new spin system without
any explicit state preparation. Next, using NV-diamond, we illustrate how the technique can be
paired with a alternating bias field to enable vector sensing. Finally, we use this technique with
yttrium-iron-garnet, where the application of oppositely oriented bias fields is used to cancel thermal
drift for low-frequency sensing.
