BackflipAI-Supercharging artists, designers, and engineers using novel 3D AI
Grier Room A
Chris Scarvelis will be presenting his upcoming ICLR research paper submission, “Orient Anything: Conquering the Challenges of 3D Shape Alignment”
BackflipAI is a 3D generative AI startup revolutionizing every industry that touches creativity and design. We’re building a foundation model that will form the kernel for AI in the physical world – powering the future of product design, factory layout, and robots that can intuitively interact in the world. While other models are trained off pictures and videos we are building the world’s first model that’s natively trained in 3D unlocking CAD precision and real-time physics simulations. This new foundation model will enable the biggest change in human productivity since the industrial revolution. We are founded by MIT alums David Benhaim (6-3, MIT ‘13) and Greg Mark (16, MIT ‘03) and are backed by some of the world’s leading investors: Andreessen-Horowitz, Kevin Scott (CTO @ Microsoft), and Ashish Vaswani (inventor of the Transformer/Attention is All You Need) among others
Prior to Backflip, Greg and David invented 3D printed carbon fiber, cofounded Markforged, and took it public for $2.1B. Markforged parts are used on the International Space Station, in fighter jets, medical applications, and robotics. In addition to inventing a new manufacturing process, we developed a powerful and easy-to-use cloud CAD platform to design mission-critical parts in carbon fiber and various metals. The CAD software is used by over 50,000 designers and engineers – from high school robotics teams to aerospace engineers at NASA.”
