Faculty Positions
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) in Cambridge, Massachusetts seeks candidates for faculty positions starting July 1, 2026, or on a mutually agreed date thereafter. We welcome outstanding applicants with research and teaching interests in any area of electrical engineering, computer science, and artificial intelligence and decision making. EECS believes that the broad range of intellectual, cultural and social interests and perspectives of our faculty, staff, and students is vitally important to the distinction and excellence of our academic and research programs. Appointment will be at the assistant or untenured associate professor level. In special cases, a senior faculty appointment may be possible, commensurate with experience. Faculty duties include teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, research, and supervision of student research. Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in electrical engineering and computer science or a related field by the start of employment. The pay range for a 9-month academic appointment at the entry-level Assistant Professor rank (excluding summer salary): $140,000 – $150,000. The pay offered to a selected candidate during hiring will be based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience and education/training, internal peer equity, and applicable legal requirements. This pay range represents base pay only and does not include any other benefits or compensation. Employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background check, including possible verification of any finding of misconduct (or pending investigation) from prior employers.

The Department of Materials Science and Engineering (DMSE) together with the Schwarzman College of Computing (SCC) at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, MA, seeks candidates at the level of tenure-track Assistant Professor to begin July 1, 2026 or on a mutually agreed date thereafter.
Materials engineering has always benefitted from theoretical and computational approaches to unveil relationships between structure, properties, processing, and performance. Recent advances in computing, including but not limited to artificial intelligence, are poised to dramatically advance the understanding and design of complex matter. DMSE and SCC jointly seek candidates with experience and interest in combining fundamental scientific principles with algorithmic innovations to empower discovery, understanding, and synthesis of materials with applications across critical societal domains — healthcare, manufacturing, energy, sustainability, climate, and next-generation computing. This search encompasses all materials classes and scales, and is open to candidates with industry and start-up experience. Candidates are expected to develop research programs that target innovation in computational approaches well-suited to materials science and engineering research.
The successful candidate will have a shared appointment in both the Department of Materials Science and Engineering and SCC in either the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) or the Institute for Data, Systems, and Society (IDSS), depending on best fit.

Position Description
The Department of Physics together with the Schwarzman College of Computing (SCC) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) located in Cambridge, MA, invites applications for a faculty position at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Physics at the level of tenure-track Assistant Professor beginning July 1, 2026 or as soon thereafter as possible.
We encourage candidates doing relevant research on any aspect of AI and Physics, broadly defined, including using Physics principles and methodologies to understand and develop AI models and algorithms, and using AI to help solve problems in Physics. We particularly welcome candidates who would strengthen connections between AI, Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, and/or Statistics.
The successful candidate will have a shared appointment in both the Department of Physics and the SCC, either in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) or the Institute for Data, Systems, and Society (IDSS), depending on best fit. The successful candidate will also be a member of the NSF Institute for Artificial Intelligence and Fundamental Interactions (IAIFI), hosted by the MIT Laboratory for Nuclear Science (LNS) and the Department of Physics.
Faculty duties include teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, advising students, conducting original scholarly research, and supervising students’ participation in research. Candidates are expected to teach both in the Department of Physics and in the educational programs of the SCC. The standard teaching load is two subjects per year.

Qualifications
We seek candidates whose research sits at the intersection of finance and computing, including computer science, artificial intelligence, and related fields. Specifically, the candidate’s work should (1) advance the frontier of research in finance and economics by developing or applying computational and/or artificial intelligence methodologies or (2) advance the frontier of computing research by analyzing novel problems arising from finance and economics. Candidates must have a PhD in finance, computer science, economics, accounting, operations research, information systems, or a related field by the start of employment.

We seek candidates who can make foundational contributions at the intersection of computing and one of two domains, either (i) ecosystem and biodiversity modeling, such as computational tools for conservation planning, species and ecosystem monitoring, and sustainable agriculture, or (ii) sustainable infrastructure and urban systems, such as AI-augmented planning for electrification, renewable integration, and climate-resilient energy and water systems.
