EECS Department Research Supervisors
Three lists are maintained by the EECS Graduate
Office, to help department graduate students and undergraduates who
are seeking:
- thesis supervision
- a UROP project
- 6.100 Independent Project Laboratory
- 6.UAP Undergraduate Advanced Project
- 6.910 Independent Reading
- other independent research experience.
Most theses and projects are supervised by a member of the EECS
faculty. Faculty in other departments may supervise EECS theses. Others at
MIT whose names appear on these lists are authorized to supervise theses and projects
depending on the level of the thesis or project. The three lists are:
- EECS Faculty Research Supervisors. This
list includes active EECS faculty members, and describes their interests.
Everyone on this list is authorized to supervise theses and projects
at any level. (A more complete list of all EECS faculty includes inactive
faculty such as emeritus faculty.)
- Nonfaculty Doctor's Thesis Supervisors. This list includes MIT research staff who are authorized to supervise
doctor's theses, master's theses, and undergraduate projects. Special
approval of the department Committee on Graduate Students is required
for doctoral thesis supervision by people not on this list other than
MIT faculty. Requests for such approval should be made to the appropriate
Area Chairman before beginning thesis research. Each doctoral thesis
committee must include at least two EECS faculty members. For more information,
contact the EECS Graduate
Office.
- Nonfaculty Master's Thesis Supervisors. This list includes MIT research staff who are authorized to supervise
master's theses and undergraduate projects. Supervision by others is
possible only with special approval. For more information, contact the
EECS Graduate Office
(S.M. students) or Undergraduate
Office (M.Eng. students).
Undergraduate Projects. These three lists may be used by those seeking
supervision of undergraduate projects of various kinds, including AUP and UROP.
Supervision by others is possible with special approval. For more information,
contact the EECS Undergraduate
Office.
Graduate Areas. For purposes of administering the department doctoral
program, faculty are loosely affiliated with one or more of six graduate areas. The Areas, the chairs and links to a list of the associated faculty members follow:
