MIT's Building 20: The Magical Incubator

Story, Anecdote, or Reminiscence

A Cut-Through

Building 20 corridor's have been a "cut-through" for me for the past 37 years, passing through to/from Draper Lab and the Student Center during noon hour. It was always more interesting to walk though the building than around the outside of it!

Building 20 is special to me because -- that is where my brother, Charlie Bella, first met his wife Rose Carol Staffiere Bella. They both worked in RLE and became another very successful MIT marriage!

Their daughter, (my niece) Lisa Ann Bella, was the 4 year old girl who rode her little red bike in the corridor, when visiting with her parents. Her story "Little Red Riding Bike" is found in the Magical Incubator. Their son John, as well as Nelson, Staffiere, Bella, Olivieri and Vuozzo relatives (brother's, sister's, cousin's, aunts) also used the Building 20 passageway during their MIT employment.

In 1992, David Leip an MIT student worked part-time with me at Draper. David was a member of the Solar Electric Vehicle Team. David invited me to visit the lab where the cars were built. I remember seeing mounds of glue on one of the tables! David spent the hour "showing and telling" how the cars were built. That visit was an awesome experience!
