Abstract

Narayana Murthy is Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Infosys Technologies Ltd. which provides Internet and e-commerce software services to the international market. Based in Bangalore, India and a leading example of the "Bangalore Phenomenon", Infosys became the first India-registered company to be listed on an American stock exchange last year.

Before founding Infosys, Mr. Murthy designed and implemented India's first BASIC interpreter and first time sharing operating system. He also helped design a 400 terminal, real time system for air cargo handling at the Charles de Gaulle Airport.

He has received numerous honors and awards including Business Week's Top Entrepreneurs and Stars of Asia; the CEO of the Year in Asia from Emerging Markets and ING Barings, and many awards in India including Businessman of the Year. Mr. Murthy is a member of the National Information Technology Task Force of India, the Prime Minister's Council on Trade and Industry and India's National Academy of Engineering and several industrial boards.
