Abstract
The Internet is a large complex system with many modes of interaction among the different packet flows. The traditional characterization of performance, based on the metrics of throughput, delay and loss rate, do not capture the relationship between observed bahavior at the end-point and the internal interactions that produce the behavior. This talk will offer some real-world illustrations of network dynamics observed in the Internet, and offer a different model of how to think about network dynamics and performance.
