LIDS Colloquium
Abstract
MIT was a pioneer in creating the analytic frameworks for servomechanism and control theory. The talk reviews the work done at MIT in the 1930s and 40s by Harold Hazen, Gordon Brown, Charles Stark Draper, and others, and how that work related to the institute's research philosophy. It also connects that work to other important trends in technology of the time, including radar, military control systems, and the rise of digital computing.
