Incoming MIT Graduate Student Receives Intel Masters Award for 1997-1998 Academic Year

Mr. Cleatus L. Robinson, a newly admitted graduate student in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at MIT, has been awarded a two year fellowship from the Intel Corporation of Hillsboro, Oregon.

Mr. Robinson is from Orangeburg, South Carolina. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from South Carolina State University in 1997, and is currently working on his Master of Science degree at MIT. During 1997 he received the Woodrow Wilson Fellowship Award of Achievement, the South Carolina State University Computer Science Achievement Award, the American Legion Award for Outstanding Man & Woman of the University and the SCSU Presidential Gold Medallion for Scholastic Achievement. Along with his extensive experience in the field of Computer Science, Mr. Robinson is also skilled in reading and writing in Japanese.

The Intel Corporation has a long history of supporting graduate education at MIT and this latest award is the first of its kind. This award is intended to encourage the entrance of underrepresented minority students into technical careers and is intended to bridge the gap between their undergraduate scholarship and Ph.D. Fellowship Program. Recipients must have demonstrated academic excellence in computer science and relevant engineering disciplines. This award is renewable for up to three years.
