Massachusetts Institute of Technology graduate student from Lexington, Kentucky, has been awarded a Microsoft Fellowship for the 1998-99 academic year.
Mr. Erik G. Miller, a graduate of Henry Clay High School’ 84 and a cum laude graduate of Yale University ‘88, expects to receive his PhD in the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory of Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at MIT in May, 2000. Before coming to MIT, Mr. Miller was co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of CORITechs, Inc., a New Haven, CT, company which specializes in computer operating room imaging technologies. He has four publications to his credit and a patent on an apparatus for performing neurosurgical stereotactic procedures.
Mr. Miller was chosen to receive this Fellowship based on his past work in the field of handwriting recognition. Along with full tuition and stipend, Microsoft will present Mr. Miller with a laptop computer and provide a $1,000 research grant to his MIT advisor.
Mr. Miller is the son of Lexington Mayor Pam Miller and her husband Dr. Ralph Miller. His interests include all kinds of sports, and in 1997 he participated in the Boston to New York AIDS ride.
