Subject: New Director of Development
As you may know, we have been searching for a Director of Development for the department, to enhance our ability to raise money to support our various needs.
I am pleased to report to you that we have been successful. Ms. Helene G. Martin joined us earlier this month. Some of you may have already met her, and others will have the opportunity during the coming weeks.
Helene is a graduate of Wheaton College and the New York School of Social Work (Columbia University). Her fundraising experience includes service for Long Island University, Columbia University, The American Academy of Ophthalmology, The Museum Society (San Francisco), and Central Park Conservancy (New York).
Helene will have particular responsibility for individual gifts. She expects to get to know, over time, all the department faculty, and to understand their work, their goals, and their dreams so that she can match the interests of potential donors to particular activities here. She will cooperate with the various interdepartmental laboratories associated with the department, and will coordinate closely with the MIT Resource Development office and the School of Engineering Assistant Dean for Development. Her office is in EECS headquarters. You can reach her via email at hmartin@mit.edu, or at ext. 3-4606.
Although she will contribute to the effort to fund the construction of the new complex of buildings that will rise on the site of Building 20, Helene’s charter is actually broader and longer range, including all educational and research needs of the department. It is likely that MIT will launch an ambitious campaign during the next few years, and Helene will work in that effort, assuring that our needs are prominent and visible, and that the excitement of everything we do is evident to our alumni/ae and others.
Please join me in welcoming Helene to the department.
