Two Former EECS Students Receive Awards from the Chorafas Foundation.

October 28, 1997

Ms. Cristina Hristea and Ms. Uree Kim were selected, from a group of 26 applicants, to receive the 1997 Chorafas Awards for outstanding research. Both women received a commerative diploma and a check from the Chorafas Foundation. They are also eligible to receive a "superprize" of 50,000 Swiss Francs that will be awarded among the prize winners of past five years.

The Chorafas Foundation was established by Professor Dimitris N. Chorafas, a well known teacher and publisher. Winners of the Chorafas prize are chosen from the pool of Master of Engineering students, based on their excellent academic performance and superior contributions in research.

The competition for the 1998 Chorafas Awards is now open and interested students are urged to obtain applications from Peggy Carney in the Graduate Office, Room 38-444. The deadline for submitting the application, with a resume, is January 1, 1998. The Chorafas Foundation will be notified of the Department's nominees in the Spring and will make their decision at their mid summer meeting. Awards will be made in the Fall.
