Prerequisites: 6.002, 6.013
This is your opportunity to learn how motors and generators work, and to qualify to build nifty things like electric cars and alternative energy systems. At the same time you can satisfy one of your Engineering Concentration requirements.
This is an introductory level subject in power handling circuitry and electromechanics. It follows the network theory part of 6.002 with a more complete description of and use of complex impedance in determining power flow in electrical networks. It then goes into the electromechanics of motors and generators. It finishes with descriptions of how the major classes of electric machines work.
The subject now serves as an elective in the Electrodynamics and Energy Systems Engineering Concentration. For more information, see http://power.mit.edu/kirtley/6061.html
