Subject: Department Personnel Committee
As you know, the EECS Personnel Committee is one of the most important committees in the department. The committee advises the department heads about faculty promotion and tenure decisions, and about other academic promotions and appointments. Each fall you get a letter from the department head announcing the committee membership for that year.
We recently noticed that the natural cycle for this committee's work happens to coincide more with the calendar year than the academic year. Each spring the committee reviews all faculty who are possible candidates for promotion, and then in the fall follows through on some of these cases. We have decided that it makes more sense to appoint this committee for calendar years than for academic years.
As a consequence, this fall the membership of the committee will be the same as for last year, and we will send you a letter in January 1995 for the 1995 year. To refresh your memory, the current membership is
