EECS Announcement

Kellis will be the first holder of the Class of '64 Distinguished Alumni Career Development Chair

June 27, 2005

Manolis Kellis received a BS in 1999, an SM in 2000 and a Ph.D. in 2003, all from MIT. He joined the faculty in 2004, and is jointly a member of CSAIL and the Broad Institute.

Manolis’ research interests are in computational biology, especially in the areas of genome interpretation (developing comparative genomics methods to identify genes and regulatory elements in the human genome); of gene regulation (deciphering the combinatorial control of gene expression and cell fate specification, and understanding the dynamic reconfiguration of genetic sub-networks in changing environmental conditions); and of evolutionary genomics (understanding the emergence of new functions, reconfiguration of regulatory motifs, and the coordinated evolution of functionally interconnected cellular components).

Manolis has also been instrumental in helping to develop our emerging curriculum in bio-CS. He is developing a new undergraduate course in algorithmic aspects of computational biology, which piloted last term, and is engaged in additional development of curriculum in computational biology.
