Madden will hold the ITT Career Development Professorship

June 27, 2005

Sam Madden received a B.S. and M.Eng. from MIT in 1999, and a Ph.D. from Berkeley in 2003. He joined the department in 2004.

Sam’s primary research focus is on database systems, particularly as applied to querying data streams and networks of distributed devices such as wireless sensor networks. He is also actively engaged in projects related to probabilistic data management, wireless networking, replication, and high-performance database architectures. He has developed applications of these methods in vehicle networks, sensor networks and other distributed systems.

In teaching, Sam has filled a long-standing hole in our curriculum by developing a new database course, in addition to lecturing some of our large undergraduate courses in software systems. Students praise him for his funny, articulate, clear and engaging explanations and presentation style.
