Willsky to receive L'Univiversity de Rennes Honoris Causa

Alan Willsky has been named one of two to receive an honorary doctorate from L'Universite de Rennes. This mid-October event is part of the 30th birthday celebration of IRISA (Institut de Recherche en Informatique et Systemes Aleatoires) a joint laboratory of INRIA (Institut National de Recherche en Informatique et Automatique), CNRS (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique), and the University of Rennes.

A two-day workshop at the University of Rennes on October 10 and 11 will include talks by several French colleauges on work related to the areas in which Alan and the other recipient, David Harel, Professor of Computer Science at the Weizman Institute in Israel, have collaborated. Two significant individuals in Alan Willsky's career have been invited to deliver talks: his thesis supervisor, Prof. Roger Brockett of Harvard University and his first Ph.D. student, Prof. Steven Marcus of the University of Maryland (formerly Department Head of Electrical Engineering).
