EECS AnnouncementMartin Demaine appointed EECS Artist-in-ResidenceFebruary 25, 2005
Martin L. Demaine has been appointed Artist-in-Residence in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
As a visiting scientist in the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory and a glass artist, Marty has demonstrated his gift for developing the artist in MIT's engineering and science students through his teaching, research and creative work. Marty's approach to this special kind of emphasis is reflected in his words.
"It has been part of my philosophy here to get students excited about connections between science and art by teaching and advising students in several mediums in addition to glass."
"I believe it is important for students to be able to express themselves visually as well as technically. Being both an artist and a researcher, I am eager to help bridge the communication gaps between the two groups, as both groups have much to gain by understanding one another."
The EECS Artist-in-Residence appointment has been made possible through generous donations made to the Angelika and Barton Weller Artist-in-Residence Fund. |
