This subject qualifies for the Devices, Circuits and Systems Engineering Concentration subject.

We will address potential applications and aspects of the theory of molecular-scale electronics. We will begin with possible molecular circuit architectures and devices. Then both optical and electronic properties of molecules will be discussed, including: radiationless transitions and energy transfer, the ramifications of molecular conformation changes, charge hopping in disordered films, metal/organic interfaces, and transmission formalism and conduction through single molecules. We will conclude with a discussion of molecular circuits in biology.

This is an advanced topics subject. There is no text. Supplementary material and references will be provided. There will be occasional problem sets and a term paper will be required.
