The following members of the EECS department faculty were named as
2004 IEEE Fellows:
Ken Stevens is the co-recipient (with Gunnar Fant of KTH in Stockholm) of the 2004 IEEE James L. Flanagan Speech and Audio Processing Award. Ken was cited for "fundamental contributions to the theory and practice of acoustic phonetics and speech perception."
Alan Willsky has received the 2004 IEEE Donald G. Fink Paper Award. The paper cited is: A.S. Willsky, "Multiresolution Markov Models for Signal and
Image Processing," Proceedings of the IEEE, Volume 90, No. 8,
August 2002, pp. 1396-1458, viewable (with membership password) at Proceedings of the IEEE.
In addition, Jeffrey Shapiro has been named a Fellow of the American Physical Society. The citation reads, "For pioneering contributions to the theory of the generation, detection and applications of novel quantum states of light, particularly the squeezed states of light."
