Introduces the problems of computation over unreliable and anonymous protocols such as the World Wide Web. The problems of persistence, concurrency control, transactions, and transactions across multiple servers are addressed. The relational database management system is introduced as a tool for attacking some of these problems. Students are taught rapid application development techniques and project management skills as they work in small mentored teams on diverse projects.
