Abstract
The frontiers of wireless communications is characterized by: 1) wider bandwidth, 2) higher carrier frequency, 3) higher level of integration, 4) use of mainstream CMOS technology, 5) use of sophisticated signal processing.
This talk describes the analog integrated circuits design efforts at Atheros Communications. In particular, I will present the design of a fully integrated CMOS transceiver operating in the 5-GHz UNII band based on the IEEE 802.11a Wireless LAN specification. The transceiver, implemented in a generic 0.25um CMOS technology, provides all of the wireless LAN functionalities without requiring any off-chip active component and SAW/ceramic filters.
