EECS Announcement

Prof. Liskov to be new EECS Associate Dept. Head

June 19, 2001

[excerpt: Letter from John Guttag to faculty and staff]

Professor Barbara Liskov has agreed to become EECS Associate Department Head from Computer Science as of September 1. Barbara is among our most illustrious faculty members. She is a member of both the National Academy of Engineering and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. In 1996, she received the Achievement Award from the Society of Women Engineers.

In addition to her research accomplishments, Barbara has played an active role in departmental activities. For many years, she co-chaired Area II graduate admissions. She has been actively involved in undergraduate teaching, most notably in the development of 6.170 for which she recently authored a new text.

I have had the privilege and pleasure of working with Barbara on a variety of things for over twenty years. I have been consistently impressed by her intelligence, energy, strength of will, dedication, and common sense. The Department is fortunate that she has agreed to take on this difficult and important job.
