EECS Announcement

Prof. Lozano-Perez to step down as EECS Associate Dept. Head

June 18, 2001

[excerpt: Letter from John Guttag to faculty and staff]

It is with considerable regret that I inform you that, at his request, Professor Tomas Lozano-Perez will be stepping down as EECS Associate Department Head from CS on September 1.

During the three years Tomas served as Associate Department Head he has been enormously effective. Many of his accomplishments are clearly visible. As Chair of the CS Search Committee, he has been responsible for bringing outstanding young faculty to EECS. He has also taken the lead in many education-related activities including identifying and implementing innovative ways to use technology to enhance the educational opportunities afforded our students.

Tomas has also made many less visible contributions to the Department. His incredible breadth of intellect and remarkably clear thinking have made him an invaluable source of counsel, not only for EECS but for all of the School of Engineering. I certainly plan to continue to seek his advice on regular basis.

On behalf of everyone in the EECS Department, I wish to express sincere gratitude to Tomas. The positive impact he has made upon this Department will still be felt many years from now.
